September 21 marks World Alzheimer’s Day, proclaimed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and sponsored by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI).
Alzheimer’s disease is considered the new epidemic of the 21st century. It is estimated that by 2050 the number of people with Alzheimer’s will rise to 131.5 million.
The first World Alzheimer’s Day was celebrated in 1994. And since 2012 the Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) organization decided to extend the commemoration throughout the month of September, and thus World Alzheimer’s Month was established.
If you have someone close to you with Alzheimer’s disease or know someone who is the primary caregiver for someone with Alzheimer’s, don’t stand still. Offer them your help, since this disease is very demanding in terms of the care that must be given.
Many times, the diagnosis comes at a difficult time and doctors do not always know how to guide the family.
